Day 6- last day in California. Friday was our final day in California and we headed back to San Francisco from Napa Valley. We woke up to gorgeous sunny skies- perfect for a drive through wine country!
Gorgeous day for a drive!
so long vino!
We stopped by in-n-out burger to see what all the fuss was about- good burgers! fries and shakes not so great though

We decided to try to see Muir Woods before returning the rental car. Unfortunately, everyone else in Marin seemed to have thought the same thing! We drove up there but the parking lots were full and cars were even parked way down the mountain along the side of the road. We decided we didn't really have enough time to park and walk up there, so instead we drove around up there and pulled off to take some pictures before my camera battery died! ahh! such bad timing!! But I got a few good shots before it quit on me.
looking down on marin county
up so high!
very steep drop offs!

After returning the rental car at the airport and catching the shuttle to our hotel, we took a nap before taking a taxi downtown to catch our Alcatraz cruise. The tour was a boat tour out to the island and an audio tour throughout the prison narrated by former inmates and guards. The timing was perfect as the sun was setting over the city and the golden gate bridge on our way out to the island and the weather was perfect- couldn't have gotten any luckier!
It's awesome how green this city is- even in our hotel room the wastebasket had dividers for recyclables and trash- so cool!

I'm on a boat!
Sunset cruise!
Sun setting over the bridge with D's head
Beautiful!!!
Once we docked at the island, we took a tour up to the prison learning a bit about the history and taking the same route prisoners would take when they arrived at Alcatraz. We checked in at the showers, which was where they went first, and got our headphones and audio gear. The tour took us throughout the prison looking at the cells, the dining hall, rec area, the guard station, the hole, and historical spots where prisoners rioted and tried to escape- so cool!
1st stop on alcatraz- the showers
D locked up
I got put in the hole!

Since we took a nap at the hotel instead of heading right out to the city, we didn't have the time to try to figure out the city's transportation system and I wasn't going to be able to ride a trolley car in San Fran, which is something I really wanted to do. However, after the Alcatraz Tour we saw an old cable car set up on the pier, so I hopped on it and "rode" it for a picture! Good enough for now!! haha. Definitely need to go back sometime and ride a moving car sometime though!
ding ding!

We were pretty hungry after the cruise, so we walked down to Pier 39 and grabbed dinner at Bubba Gump Shrimp Company, which I had never been to before- it's a pretty fun restaurant and hit the spot! We thought about trying to navigate the city transportation system back to our hotel, but decided it would be easier just to grab a can even though it was really expensive. So we walked down to grab one, but say there was actually a line to get a cab. There were about 10 or so people ahead of us so we waited a bit until randomly a limo pulls up and the driver gets out and asks where everyone is going, then offers to take us there for less than a cab. Not many people were taking him up on it and we didn't think he would want to go out to the airport (where our hotel was), but he said yeah and offered to do it for $15 less than what it cost to get us down there that afternoon, so we jumped on it! So we randomly got a private limo ride back to our hotel! Great end to our night in San Francisco!!!
riding in the limo!
