48 Hours In!

A little check-in now that we have officially lived in our house for a solid 48 hours!

Though I was moving small stuff over by the car load over the course of the first 10 days we owned the home, Sunday was the big moving day when we borrowed my Dad's trailer to get the couch, bed, desk, table, bookshelves, TV and computers to the new house.  It went very smoothly, although it was a little scary to watch the guys maneuver our couch across the railings/porch since it wouldn't fit through the door/stairs...

And due to some great tetris-like trailer-packing, we got all the big stuff over in just one trip!

So of course we did this all day on Sunday... and then had to go to work on Monday with the house in complete disarray!  So yesterday after work I went to town moving stuff around, vacuuming and cleaning, to straighten up the madness.

We had our first "unexpected" home owner issue this week too.  SLUGS.  Yep, I kept finding little slugs near a corner of our kitchen by the front door/window. EWWWWWW!  Project: Slugs-Be-Gone has commenced.  I googled slugs and learned they hate salt, so I poured a salt line along the baseboards where I kept finding them... so far no slugs in the first 24 hours!

I have a feeling it is due to some moisture issues out front.  It seems very damp around the edges of our house, so I think some landscaping is in order this spring to help remedy the situation.

So now we are slowly getting settled and trying to determine what projects to tackle first!  I think the first ones will be sprucing up (1) front yard/curb appeal, (2) kitchen, (3) living room/dining area, & (4) our bedroom.  Some ideas so far...

(1) A little landscaping up front- trim back those bushes, mow the lawn and edge the driveway (which we want to re-do since it's cracking).  As well as wrap the sofits/fascia and re-paint the trim around the windows so it's all a crisp white and not cream.  And replace those light fixtures out front to freshen the face of the house up a bit.

(2) The kitchen!  Eventually, I'd like to completely re-do the cabinets, counters and floors... but until then I think I'll spruce up the cabinets with a good cleaning and new handles, possibly replace the counters?, def put some color on the walls and new curtains and an eat-in kitchen table or island.

(3) The living room 'just barely' fits our super comfy & super large couch sectional & the dining table too, but we definitely have some painting to do in these rooms, some window treatment decisions to make (curtains? plantation blinds?), and some more pillows/throws to lighten up the big gray couch monster.

(4) Our bedroom has a bed... and that's about it right now!  I've got a pretty shade of blue in mind for the walls with some white plantation blinds-curtains-trim, replacing the ceiling fan, a lighter gray or white bedspread, and I'd like to try my hand at building a headboard too!  I've seen a bunch on some people's blogs and I think that with Dad's help (& tools!), I can totally do it.  We also have to replace the carpet for sure- the pictures make it look lighter than the actual matted, dark brown color it truly is.  Plus you can see how poorly it is installed right now.  The carpet runs up the stairs, into both bedrooms and the loft area and then the back bedroom (the "man cave" now) also has carpet to replace. As soon as painting is done, carpets will be replaced!
